Work Hours & Environment
The normal working week is 40 hours Mondays to Friday. Shiftwork is common and overtime is sometimes required to get the project delivered on time.
The working environment of a welder can be challenging and depends on the type of area you go into, such as working on an oilrig or working on a shipyard. Most environments will require you to work in varied conditions that are not your normal 9-5 desk job. You may be required to work high up on a skyscraper, on an oilrig or underwater, but with this you can command a higher salary.
Protective clothing is required for any environment.
